Carrickfergus
Knights 14-30 Belfast Bulls

Carrickfergus
headed to the Belfast Bulls, on Sunday May 4th, in an IAFL North
Divisional match up, reeling from a heavy defeat at the hands of
the Belfast Trojans.
The stagnant
offence that had showed up the previous week against the Trojans,
moved the ball well against the Bulls. #14 quarterback Adam Devenney
had at least 12 completions for over 150 yards and #34 running back
Callum Morrow burned 89 yards off 18 carries and had a touchdown.
The Bulls opened
the scoring on a 5 play, 83 yard drive late in the first quarter,
making the score 6–0 with no extra points. Then, scoring on
their next possession, after forcing the Knights to punt, a 10 play
68 yard drive with a 2 pointer, made it 14–0.
A 45 yard drive
by the Knights fell short with a failed 4th and 8 pass attempt and
the Bulls got the ball back just before the half end. A holding
penalty on the Bulls pinned them back on their own goal line. On
the next play Knights linebacker, #90 Spencer McDowell, picked off
a hurried pass and ran in it for a score. #8 Stephen Croft kicked
the extra point to make it 14-7 to the Bulls at half time.
The Bulls charged out for the second half going over 60 yards for
a touchdown and 2 point conversion, extending their lead to 22-6.
The next three possessions ended in punts, then the Knights' defense
forced a turnover on downs deep in their own territory. #14 Devenney
hooked up with #86 McKillop for a 72 yard pass play taking the ball
down to the 4. Rookie #34 Morrow then ran it in and kicker #8 Croft
scored the point after. Knights 14-22 Bulls.
The Bulls following
drive stalled and the Knights' offense had a chance as time expired
but 2 late interceptions by Belfast's defense, one for a score,
sealed a victory as chaos broke out on the pitch. Final score 30–14.
M.V.P.s were awarded to both offensive and defensive captains, #14
Adam Devenney and #90 Spencer McDowell. The Knights have a week
to regroup at practice before a head to head at the Trojans on May
18th.
Every game gets more important...
