Dragons 0-24 Cork Admirals 2nds
On a day when the cliche of Irish weather conditions was truly invoked,
the young but enthusiastic Dragons squad learnt a hard lesson in
the ways of Gridiron. The weather frequently shifted from a bright,
but windy, sunny day to a torrential hailstorm. After a solid performance
against an equally new team in less trying conditions two weeks
before, the Cork Admirals were a different animal. Their senior
team were runners-up in the league last year, and they had drilled
their rookies well. The Dragon's offence performed well in the early
going with some promising drives, but some early mistakes frustrated
any scoring opportunities and eventually led to the offence being
shut down repeatedly. The Dragons threw everything they had at the
Admirals defensively, and showed their quality at times, but a combination
of time on the pitch and some good execution by the Admirals led
to them scoring 4 unconverted touchdowns. The final score of 24-0
was not necessarily a true reflection of the game, although kudos
must go to Cork for playing to their strengths.
After a week of rest and focusing on the game, the Dragons go back
to training next week to prepare for a rematch with Edenderry Soldiers.
Hopes are high for our first win of the season, and nothing less
will be tolerated
