IRISH AMERICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE – 23 OCTOBER 2005.

SCOTS APOLOGISE FOR CANCELLED GAME

The IAFL would like to issue an unreserved apology for the cancellation of the game against the West Coast Trojans that was due to take place on Saturday 22nd October - see poster above. Unfortunately the visiting team withdrew at the last moment leaving no option but to cancell the game. The cancellation of the game was by no means the fault of the National Team management. The IAFL Allstars players and coaches put in a lot of effort preparing for this game including dedicating 2 weekends to training specifically for this fixture. Their dedication is to be commended. The West Coast Trojans would like to apologise to anyone who did not find out in time and turned up at ALSAA expecting a game. The IAFL would also like to apologise to the officials, National Team support staff, ALSAA staff and Order of Malta staff, all of whom were preparing for and looking forward to an afternoon of football.

Please see the e-mail below from the WCT manager - the Irish National Team did not find out about the cancellation until Friday morning and efforts were made to get word around to everyone as quickly as possible, though, given the short notice, some did not find out until the day of the game. The West Coast Trojans had been in contact with National Team staff on Tuesday 18th October (4 days before game) and had assured the NT staff that travel arrangements had been finalised and a squad of at least 28 players had confirmed that they were travelling.

Message from Trojans Management.

Phil,

I got some bad news, I have had 18 call offs since Sat leaving me a squad of 19 players and with a coach bill of £1800 between the 18 and hotel we are looking at around £130 per player. Out of the 18 left only 4 can
afford to pay this kind of money so we are going to have to cancel the game.

I know this stinks and i can only apologise and say i have tried all other avenues to get us over but the cheapest is around £70 per person + hotel.

If the IAFL is out of pocket then i am prepared to cover the costs from my own pocket.
Phil if you could apologise to everyone i would appreciate it, i feel a post
on your forum will result in abuse and as i am already out of pocket to the tune of £500 (deposit for bus) i dont think i could take any more.

Sorry mate.

Gary Mc
