Celtic Classic III

Team Ireland put in their best performance of recent years against the semi-pro Coventry Jets team in Celtic Classic III, played in Coventry on Sunday 15th October. The Jets are the current British Division 1A Champions and are unbeaten over the past 3 seasons. Their roster includes several Great Britain Internationals and players with professional experience. The Celtic Classic was sponsored by the Cassidy Group who also sponsor the Jets. Erin Wagner was Team Ireland’s MVP after making numerous tackles and picking up some first downs on the ground while rotating in on offense.

John Carroll Win Celtic Classic

John Carroll University of Ohio won the Celtic Classic with a comfortable 52-2 victory over Ireland (IAFL Allstars) on front of a large crowd at Greystones RFC. However, the big winner was Irish football – this was the first time the Ireland has fielded a representative squad since the reformation of the IAFL in 2001 and the first time Ireland has played against a US college team.

Ireland Team Named for Celtic Classic Game

The Ireland squad for the Celtic Classic game against John Carroll University was announced this morning by Coach Phil DeMonte (13/5/04). The team chosen for the Celtic Classis is essentially an “allstar” team comprised of the best players playing in the Irish American Football League (IAFL). Players from all 6 league teams – Belfast Bulls, Carrickfergus Knights, Cork Admirals, Dublin Dragons, Dublin Rebels & Univ. Limerick Vikings – are included.

The Celtic Classic – Preview

Ireland will be playing U.S. college football side, John Carroll University of Ohio at Greystones Rugby Club on Sunday 30th May in the Celtic Classic American football game. This will be the first visit of a U.S. college football team to Ireland since Notre Dame played Navy in the Shamrock Classic in 1996.
