Eagles hoping to keep the momentum going

Ahead of what’s probably one of the biggest games of the season in IAFL1, the Wexford Eagles against the Westmeath Minotaurs, Eagles Head Coach Kevin Klatt spoke to the clubs Media team about keeping the momentum going ahead of the big game.

Klatt said, “This weekend, we face the in-form Westmeath Minotaurs, whose latest win moved them to a 4-2 record on the season. We are just after a tough 24-0 win against the Cill Dara Crusaders, so we will be looking to maintain our perfect season.”

He knows how important this game is in the context of their season, “A win would see us move to 7-0, but even more is at stake in this game. With just one regular season fixture remaining after the Minotaurs (against the Meath Bulldogs, on July 15th), a win this coming Sunday would guarantee the us a first-round bye in the playoffs, followed by home field advantage in the semi-final on July 29th.”

Klatt continued, “On the other hand, should the Minotaurs win, they would have home field advantage all but locked up for their quarter-final clash on July 22nd. So to be honest both teams have it all to play for!”

“The Minotaurs coach (Conor Brennan) recently said in an interview that their team is aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the Eagles squad and that they are coming to this game full of confidence that they can win.

“Our Eagles team now boast the highest-scoring offence in the entire IAFL, having notched up 221 points in our six games. What’s more, the defence, having conceded a mere 27 points in those six games, is the top-ranked defence in the league.”

The Eagles received a huge boost in their quest to reach the IAFL Bowl this week, with the news that they will be hosting it on the 12th of August. Klatt was delighted with the news but knows it won’t be easy, “After receiving the news that we are hosting this year’s IAFL-1 Bowl game, we must now turn our thoughts back to the task at hand…and no small task it is!”

Temperatures look like being in the high 20’s this weekend, and no doubt it will be even hotter on the field and the Eagles coach is calling on the people of Wexford to come out in force to back his side. He said, “With the weather looking set to co-operate, it promises to be a first-class battle between two teams who both feel they have what it takes to win.”

“We will be hoping to see our amazing supporters come out in force, cheering on the side. Bring the kids, enjoy the sun, and shout for the Eagles!”

Kick-off is at 2 and as always, admission is free.
