The Department of Tourism, Culture & Sport recently approved a proposal from the Irish American Football Association to obtain a set of top quality American football goal posts from the USA. The posts, which were ordered last week, are being supplied by Gilman Gear, who are suppliers to the NFL and many major college football teams. These posts, will be delivered to Tallaght Stadium within the next few weeks.
Funding for the goal posts comes from the Departments Sports Capital Programme which is funded from National Lottery proceeds. While some locally produced regulation posts have been in use in Ireland over the past 20 years, it is believed that this set will be the first modern “goose neck” style posts to be regularly used in Irish games.
